From the workplace to the training room: teaching qualifications for corporate trainers

Corporate training has moved from an annual box-ticking exercise to something organisations take seriously. With that shift has come a question about who delivers it. ‘Ask Dave, he has been here longest’ is giving way to trainers who are qualified to teach as well as expert in their subject.

Short answer

If you deliver workshops, inductions or compliance training, start with the L3AET. If you already train regularly and design or lead programmes, the L4CET is the stronger choice. Both are online, so your team can qualify without time out of the business.

Why it matters in corporate training

When a training programme is looked at closely, by clients, HR leadership, regulators or the staff who sit through it, the qualifications of the people delivering it are part of the picture. A qualified trainer signals that the organisation takes development seriously, and the qualification shows commitment to the craft of teaching, not just the subject.

Which qualification fits?

01

The L3AET: for delivery-focused trainers

If you are moving from a specialist role into training, or formalising training you already do informally, the Level 3 Award in Education and Training (L3AET) is the starting point. It covers planning a session, adapting to different learners, delivering well and checking that learning has happened. View the L3AET

02

The L4CET: for L&D professionals

If you design programmes, lead a team of trainers or are heading for a learning and development lead role, the Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training (L4CET) goes deeper into learning theory, inclusive practice, evaluation and the wider professional context. You need 30 hours of teaching with your own learners, which most active corporate trainers already have. View the L4CET

What if my subject is highly specialist?

A teaching qualification is not about the subject you teach. It is about how you teach it. Understanding your learners, designing sessions, using a range of methods, checking learning and reflecting on your practice apply whether you train people in financial compliance, engineering or leadership. Specialist knowledge plus formal teaching skills is a rarer combination than you might think.

Will my employer pay?

Often, yes. Frame it as a return on investment: a qualified trainer delivers more effective programmes, and better programmes produce better results.

✓Request an invoice and pay by Bank Transfer

✓5% off for 3 to 4 bookings, 10% off for 5 or more, with no minimum number

✓Class-based delivery at your own site for groups of six or more

✓A moderator login so you can see each learner’s progress

How employers pay for staff training with us explains the steps. If you are self-employed, pay in full or spread the cost with PayPal Pay in 3 or Pay in 30 days. See how PayPal Pay Later works on our courses.

Specialist knowledge plus formal teaching skills is a combination clients notice.

Making it work for your career

A recognised teaching qualification strengthens your current role, makes you more competitive for senior L&D posts and, if you are freelance, gives clients a clear reason to trust you. Many trainers also find it changes how they design, deliver and evaluate their programmes, and that shows in results.

Questions people ask

Can my company book several trainers at once?

Yes. Request one invoice for the group, with 5% off for 3 to 4 bookings and 10% off for 5 or more.

Do I need the L3AET before the L4CET?

No. If you already teach and can evidence 30 hours, you can start with the L4CET.

Can you train our team on site?

Yes, for groups of six or more, with the rest finished online.
