What can I teach with the L4CET?
Any course up to Level 3 in a subject you already hold a qualification in. That is a big step up from the L3AET and opens more doors in colleges and training providers.
Is the L4CET recognised?
Yes. It is Ofqual-regulated and accepted by employers across the UK. British qualifications are well regarded internationally and Ofqual-regulated qualifications are accepted by many employers and organisations outside the UK. Recognition overseas is decided by each country or employer, so check with them if you plan to work abroad. Check it on the Ofqual Register (GOV.UK)
Does it let me teach in schools?
Not state schools. It is for colleges, training providers and workplace training, teaching learners aged 14 or over. State schools need Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). To teach in schools, see Get into School Teaching (GOV.UK).

Where do my 30 teaching hours come from?
Your own learners, in a paid or voluntary teaching role. Keep a simple teaching log and ask your organisation for a short letter confirming your hours.

How do the assessments work?
Scenario-based questions and a portfolio of evidence (no long essays), plus three observed teaching sessions of at least 1 hour each in your own subject.
How many hours will I be observed for?
At least three hours: three observed sessions of at least 1 hour each, taken from your 30 hours of teaching practice with your own learners. You need a teaching placement or job in your subject area before you start, whether paid or voluntary.
How are my sessions observed?
Remotely by one of our tutors, at no extra cost, by video recordings that you upload for your tutor to assess
OR
By a qualified teacher from your own team once we approve them (just send us their CV and teaching certificate).
You teach your own learners (at least 3 to 4, aged 14 or over), with at least 7 days between sessions for feedback, self-evaluation and reflection.
You have one resubmission per session, so prepare well.
Can a team member observe my sessions?
Yes. We can approve a qualified teacher from your team to carry out your session observations. They need to hold a PGCE, Cert. Ed., M. Ed., DTLLS or the DET qualification.
To approve them, we need their up-to-date CV and a copy of their teaching qualification. We cannot approve anyone who qualified within the last 6 months.
How fast is my work marked?
Within 24 to 72 hours, often the next day. Weekends and public holidays are not counted. Most providers take 2 to 3 weeks.
Can I fail?
Each assessment is a Pass or a Refer. A Refer comes with clear pointers to put it right, and you get three attempts at each theory assessment and two at your observations.
How is this different from a cheap CET course online?
Very cheap CET courses typically offer a PDF and a light-touch portfolio review. They pass a qualification but do not build the competence to teach. How soon can I start?
